Rough Sunday. That’s the last time I eat 8 racks of baby back ribs before a game. It’s good going down until about the 5th or 6th rack and then my brain is saying “Brucey, no more, no more!” But I couldn’t stop myself, they’re so damn good. Damn you, Chile’s! For those of you watching the game, you might have noticed yours truly was absent on the sidelines during parts of the game. Those would be the baby back ribs. I was walking out of the WC in the 3rd, my mind blown that the Oilers have now become the Texans, when I see a hot dog stand inside the stadium. I couldn’t help myself. Before I know it, the game is over and somehow we didn’t score anywhere close to 40, which was the bare minimum I thought we’d score. I really have no idea why the offense is failing to score more points, I’ve been laying out the perfect gameplan week after week. I’ve been out thinking, out scheming, out philosophizing and just outright out smarting the other team’s coaches. The player’s just need to execute better and I think it happens this week, I cannot wait. And I promise I won’t eat 8 racks of baby back ribs. I’m going to keep it down to around 4 or 5. I promise.

What happened to Chile’s baby back ribs? They still sell those? I couldn’t get those ribs out of my head during the game last Sunday, a game that we won fairly handily, by the way. If I could, I’d eat those delicious ribs everyday. They are so good. As soon as we were up by 10 I was on my phone/computer machine looking for the number of a local Chiles in the area. I kept looking and looking and before I knew it, it was halftime. Now I’m starving at this point and can’t find any results on the google thing. Fichtner tells me something about the gameplan with that weird constipated look he gets sometimes, I shrug him off and tell him “Fich, we scored 10 in the 1st quarter! What the heck are you so worried about it?” He says something else but my mind is already back on those baby back ribs. I HAVE to find a damn chile’s!!  At some point in the 3rd quarter I realize that I’ve been spelling Chile’s wrong, I was typing in “Chi-Chi’s”, but then I realized they’re pretty damn good too, which was probably why I was typing them out on the phone machine in the first place. But they aren’t around anymore so I just picked up a couple Big Mac’s with Peyton after the game. Oh well but I still have to get my hands on those baby back ribs. Can’t wait for the game this Sunday!

Another day, another dollar they say. This cool cat is hip to it and that’s just what we did on Sunday.  I am a little surprised we didn’t score more points, though. I pretty much called the perfect gameplan (again). Once the players catch up to the offensive gameplans I’ve been laying out, we’ll be good to go. I found it strange that we were playing a team from Seattle, though. Since when did Seattle get an NFL team? Weird stuff! Anyway, I look forward to what should be a fun game this Sunday! I called up Peyton, we’re going out for drinks afterwards!

Boy, that wasn’t pretty. But we almost got the job done. If only Ben didn’t screw up so much we probably would’ve hung at least 40 on Baltimore. We were close and I believe we’ll get there this week as some team from Seattle comes to town. It’ll be great to be back in Pittsburgh. I think I know what Ben’s problem is. He got married. I told him not to but the dumb kid wouldn’t listen to me. I said “Ben, don’t do it, you’ll lose your edge, you’ll start thinking about what the wife will be making for dinner during the game.” He laughed at me like he always does but that’s exactly what happened. And who’s laughing now? It sure isn’t the offensive line, I’ll tell ya that! In the 3rd quarter of the game Ben walked over to me and said “Bruce, the wife is making fried chicken and homemade coleslaw for dinner tonight, I can’t wait!” I told him to stop distracting me from trying to run a damn offense but he wasn’t listening. I do have to admit, she does make pretty good coleslaw. I wonder what she’ll be making for dinner this Sunday? Hot dogs sounds pretty good to me. Maybe some cold beers. I can’t wait.

Well, I’m back. I thought I would be sitting on some beach enjoying my retirement right now, but nope. The team needed me and I needed them. I love these guys, Ben specifically pulled me aside and said “Bruce, don’t retire, the boys need you, I need you. If you retire, Fichtner will be the OC and that means I’ll actually have to practice hard and study gamefilm, blah, blah, blah”. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really listening, I was hammered. In fact, I’m not even sure the conversation actually happened. It’s hard to say. The important thing is, I’m back, the offense is back, the boys are back and you know what else? We’re going BACK to the freakin’ Super Bowl!!!!!! YEAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHHHH!!!!!!!

Hey hey hey cool cats, look who is back!!!! OK, here’s the deal, Tomlin found out that I was posting my own blog thing and shut it down. I told him “Hey man, this blog is about the only thing I got going on besides my model helicopters, let me keep doing it!” Tomlin replied “Bruce, you are the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers!” I guess he has a point. But after weeks I’ve worn him down and he’s letting me do a special Super Bowl edition of my blog. It’s been a heck of ride so far, Steeler fans but we still got one more game to go and it’s a big boy. I gotta be honest, I don’t know if I’ll be back next season we gotta make this one count. I’ve also decided to give Fichtner a copy of the playbook for the game. When I say playbook, I mean the real playbook, before today I’ve always given him a dummy playbook, filled with drawings of Fichtner’s face and me punching it. I know I haven’t always said nice things about Fichtner on here but the guy has really grown on me and I consider him a buddy now. Plus I have a feeling that I’m going to have one hell of a hangover come Sunday morning. And if by chance I somehow find myself in Mexico (I’m looking at you Jack Daniels) with no pants on and can’t make it back in time for the game it’s good to know we have a backup plan. What else can I say? It’s been a hell of a ride so far. I know some think I’m not the best coach in the world, but I’ve always given 100% and that’s pretty much all you can ask. This cool cat will see you on the other side. Let’s go Steelers!!!!!

What did I say last week? I was going to call the same exact plays that I had the previous week. And I did! The guys started off rusty as always, but like I said, through repetition and practice they got it down in the 4th quarter. And what a quarter it was! A cool 23 was scored in that quarter. What can I say? I’m just that good. Now, I can’t control what happens on the other side of the ball for our team. That’s the “legend” Dick Lebeau’s job. Hey, not my problem! Usually I’m in such a zone during the game that I don’t even know what the score is, I’m just solely focused on calling plays. I honestly thought we had won the game on Ben’s last TD pass. He had the game of his life in the 4th quarter. Then I looked up at the scoreboard as the last seconds ticked away and said “what the hell?” Well, there’s not much more I can do, that’s for sure, which is why I’ll be calling the same exact plays in the same exact order next week! I’m thinking we’ll get even better as was evidenced in the Patriot game. Until next week, have a good one, Steeler fans!
